Stunning, sought after classic Tumlare yacht for sale: "Schnapps" (ex. “Tinkerbelle”).
A fine example of the classic Knud Reimers design, "Schnapps", sail No 12, launched as "Tinkerbelle" in around 1938 is now for sale for the best of reasons: we need a bigger boat!
The Tumlare class has a slim, long keel-hull with distinctive canoe stern and stern hung rudder. This particular boat has been moored on Windermere for at least the last 8 years and has been stored indoors over winter, although in her long past has been sailed on the south coast. This class has a rich history, described by Adlard Coles in "Heavy Weather Sailing" as behaving impeccably during an extreme conditions Channel crossing.
Planked in Oregon Pine fastened to steam bent oak timbers with copper clenched nails. Heavy wooden floors, extra large at midships. Deck new in 2005 with new deck beams, new coach-roof, varnished mahogany coamings, deep cockpit with varnished mahogany thwarts. Topsides were fully recoated in epoxy in 2019 by professional boatbuilder and the below hull was fully sanded, primed and last antifouled in 2024.
Fractional Bermudan sloop rig. Keel stepped varnished wooden mast, varnished wooden boom. Forestay with roller furling genoa. Stainless steel standing rigging to internal chain plates.
Cosy accommodation consists 2 berths either side, and Origo 2 burner meths stove to port with storage below. Chartdesk to aft, of starboard varnished mahogany. Heads is a bucket on the centreline between the two berths with a wooden lid. Smart upholstery in the form of fitted cushions. Access via companionway aft with hatch forward.
Most recent survey 2022 with no major findings. No major work expected apart from usual running maintenance to coatings, varnishes etc.
Maintained by professional boat builder sand stored indoors over winter "Schnapps" is ready to sail and comes with;
- Road /launch trailer
- Tender
- Main sail (good condition)
- Roller genoa (good condition)
- main sail cover
- Cockpit cover
- Full size cover (Impact Marine) for trailer or can be fitted afloat to protect the decks
- 2 manual bilge pumps
- 1 automatic bilge pump
- solar panel with trickle charger
- stainless steel bracket for outboard motor
- additional bilge pump powered off independent battery
It will be a real shame to sell this boat (but due to 2 growing sons we need a bit more space): she sails brilliantly and is arguably the best looking yacht on Windermere (although of course, I am biased!)
