HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:
ZAIDA was built in 1921 by Silvers of Rosneath for A C Forrest of Glasgow to John Bain’s Maple-Leaf Class Motor-Cruiser design. First of the class was MAPLE LEAF built in 1919, subsequently, six vessels were built to this design ZAIDA being the last and of slightly larger dimensions overall. The only other surviving example, SILVER FOAM is currently in Holland.
A C Forrest was a member of the Royal Clyde Yacht Club, Royal Cruising Club and Royal Largs Yacht Club. He cruised the Western Isles in ZAIDA until the late 1930s selling the vessel to R Gordon Paterson of Beach House, Dunoon. In 1947 Richard Simpson of Undercliff, Hunter’s Quay, Argyll became the next registered owner, selling to Robert Donald of Balrobert, Inverness in 1950. A few years later ZAIDA was sold to Alex Aitkenhead of The Oval, Glasgow who kept her for over four decades. In the current ownership, ZAIDA has been kept in as near original condition as possible, still cruising the same waters for nearly a century.
