CYNTHIA – HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:
The Islander Class dates from the early 1950s as featured in the Yachting World Annual of 1954. Mostly built in the UK due to lower production costs by Port Hamble Ltd. Sydney Herreshoff, a highly successful and well-respected designer in the USA was looking to produce a fast and weatherly day-sailer similar to the popular English X Boats.
CYNTHIA was built in 1955 by Port Hamble Ltd.
Close seamed mahogany planking, copper fastened to steam bent oak timbers, oak floors and centre-line with 1,100lb iron ballast keel. Refurbished in the present ownership.
Alloy mast & spars.
Sails, main and number 1 jib, four years old. Number 2 jib older but in good condition.
Rigging renewed last season.
Stowe log with paddlewheel (not installed).
3.5hp TOHAZU long-shaft outboard motor, quarter mounted.
Storage Yard cradle on wheels.
