Dormouse is typical of a pocket cruiser from this period. Built by Shuttlewoods in 1957 on the River Roach. A traditional carvel construction of mahogany on oak and copper fastings. She contains all the desirable features that any yachtsman cruising the East Coast in the late 1950s could have wanted, complete with a centreboard, gaff rig, and wood stove. Designed in 1927 for the Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club by Johan Anker, the Dragon class soon established itself as an international class, with fleets across Europe and Scandinavia. The initial concept was for a Bermudan-rigged keelboat that provided rudimentary accommodation, and in this way could be used to sail and sleep on, from one regatta to another, as well as cruising for pleasure.
