Description

Gudgeon, a Classic from 1920, was lengthened by 5ft adding a counter stern to her in 2011. She represents a rare opportunity to acquire a lovely Classic yacht She does require a serious refit and cosmetic overhaul. So much time and money has been put into her but the continuous maintenance has been neglected. She has been unused for a considerable length of time.
Designed by Alfred Mylne and built by the Wessex Motor and Sailing Boat Co. of Hamworthy, Poole in 1920. Originally designed with small doghouse and a transom stern, she underwent a major refit in present ownership between 2009 – 2011.
July 2019 she was lifted out of the water to received some attention.

Construction

Hull Planked in mahogany below the waterline, larch above on sawn oak frames with steamed elm intermediate timbers. Bronze screw fastened into oak frames and copper nails with roves in the steamed timbers. Grown oak floors all bronze fastened with iron straps in the midships section, fastened with stainless bolts. Oak centreline with external cast iron ballast keel and bronze keel bolts. Decks and cockpit Yacht laid teak deck screwed and glued over a marine plywood sub deck on laminated mahogany deck beams. The aft deck is new in way of the counter and has been feathered into the old deck. Teak is joggled to a king plank with varnished cover boards and toe rails. Deep self draining cockpit with laid teak thwarts and bridge deck. Scrubbed teak gratings. Water tight hatch in the sole for access to aft bilge. Superstructure Coachroof with varnished mahogany coamings and bronze portholes. Laid teak coachroof deck over a ply sub deck with scrubbed teak handrails either side. Pair of varnished skylights on the coachroof deck.
Between 2009 – 2011 her stern was extended to form a counter stern, a new mizzen mast was added to increase her overall sail area. This work was carried out by Suffolk Harbour professionals to a high standard, all overseen by a surveyor
The interior was refitted and all new electrical and plumbing systems were installed As well as a complete cosmetic refit. 2011 survey available.
There is evidence of her coming out of the water again in 2013. Then
she was stripped back and had the topsides and all the exterior varnish work all re-done.
She is now to be found in a very neglected state afloat on her marina mooring. She is requiring bucket loads of TLC. All the varnish and the decks need re -doing again. Inside there are serious signs of fresh water ingress. The environment is all rather wet , mouldy and rusty!.....Huge sums of time and money have been spent on her but sadly not in recent times.
Her engine looks unscathed.
Hence the ridiculously low Asking price for such a Classic Old Lady.
